Lands based around “Shrek,” “Trolls,” and “SpongeBob Squarepants” will be coming to the Universal Kids Resort opening in Frisco, Texas, next year.
In one of the biggest news drops ever about project, Universal revealed Wednesday the seven themed lands coming to the 32-acre park.

The lands of Universal Kids Resort (Universal)
Universal Creative president Molly Murphy said in a press release, “Universal Kids Resort embodies the spirit of igniting thrill that drives everything we create — designed to bring our youngest guests and families together through play, creativity, and beloved characters and stories. It’s a destination made for kids and, as a regional theme park, brings Universal’s signature storytelling to families close to home.”
The seven lands are:
- Shrek’s Swamp
- Puss in Boots Del Mar
- Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club
- Jurassic World Adventure Camp
- TrollsFest
- SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom
- Isle of Curiosity featuring Gabby’s Dollhouse
Isle of Curiosity serves as the park’s entrance area after going under the 300-room Universal Kids Resort Hotel. Gabby from “Gabby’s Dollhouse” will have a character greeting in this section.
Besides meet-and-greets, Universal’s press release also named some specific play areas in many of the park’s sections, such as Shrek’s Swamp Rompin’ Stomp and the Pineapple Paradise water play area in Bikini Bottom.
“We envisioned this park through the unbridled creativity of kids where infinite imagination, curiosity and free-spirited play were core to our design philosophies,” Universal Creative’s chief creative officer Brian Robinson, said in a statement. “It produced a park that’s pure joy and an absolute celebration of what it is to be a kid.”
What the Wednesday press release didn’t include was concrete information on any of the actual rides for the park — but some are depicted in the concept art.
Besides the two small roller coasters in the Jurassic World and TrollsFest lands, the images show a balloon ride in TrollsFest, a Minions-themed river rapids ride, and a “Puss in Boots” swing ride.
Universal Kids Resort is scheduled to open sometime in 2026 as Universal’s first foray into a kids-oriented regional theme park. It already has some competition for that demographic in the wider Dallas-Fort Worth market, as a Peppa Pig Theme Park opened in North Richlands Hills earlier this year.
