A next-generation coaster with a Harry Potter theme will be built to replace the Dragon Challenge at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

The Dragon Challenge was originally called Dueling Dragons when it opened in 1999. It will close Sept. 4 to make way for what the park is calling its “most highly-themed coaster experience.”

Dragon Challenge played a game of chicken with the coaster, Flight of the Hippogriff, with near misses in flight until the duel ended in 2011 when passengers were hit by possessions from riders on the other coaster. A 52-year-old man lost an eye and Universal began requiring guests to empty their pockets and stash all belongings in lockers before riding major coasters.

The new ride, which has yet to be named, will open at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure in 2019.

The new thrill ride will revolve around J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where guests will encounter some of their favorite characters and creatures.

“It’ll be unlike anything we’ve ever done before and it will be fun for the entire family,” according to the Universal Orlando blog.
