More Minions are coming to Universal Studios Florida with a new attraction and restaurant in 2023.

Combined with the existing Despicable Me Minion Mayhem ride, this section of the park will be dubbed Minion Land on Illumination Ave.

The biggest addition in this new land will be Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast, set to open this summer. Universal described in the attraction in its press release as:

“The world-class attraction transports guests to Villain-Con – the biggest criminal convention on the planet – to take part in an epic competition to see if they have what it takes to become the newest member of The Vicious 6, a notorious group of supervillains from the hit film, ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru.’ Guests who are up for the challenge will grab an interactive blaster and step onto a motion-based pathway to put their skills to the test. They’ll wind and glide through various scenes where they earn points by blasting a variety of items and causing as much mayhem and destruction as possible. It’s a unique, mischief-filled experience that’s so much fun, it’s a crime.”

The new attraction was teased earlier this year when Universal closed Shrek 4-D, which was located just across from Minion Mayhem.

Universal did not offer specifics on the land’s new restaurant, Minion Cafe, but it’s obvious that it will take over what was once the Classic Monsters Cafe. The quick service dining location closed this past spring after a 31-year run at the park.  Universal Studios Hollywood had opened its own Minion Cafe in 2021.

Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast will be the first new attraction opened at Universal Orlando Resort since Jurassic World VelociCoaster debuted in June 2021. Neither Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure opened a new attraction in 2022, the first time the resort failed to open a new ride or show in a calendar year since 2015.
