Universal Studios Hollywood has narrowed the opening window for its “Fast & Furious” roller coaster.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift has been seen testing for months, but will not open until summer 2026, Universal announced Thursday. The first outdoor thrill coaster in the Hollywood park’s history, the ride will have guests weaving around the hillside of Universal City in cars that spin 360 degrees, in order to simulate the sensation of a drifting cars.
Universal has said the ride will reach a top speed of 72 miles per hour along its 4,100 feet of track. The coaster is being built by Liechtenstein-based coaster firm Intamin, the same manufacturer behind other Universal coaster favorites such as VelociCoaster at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure and Hiccup’s Wing Gilders at Epic Universe.

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will be promoted by Universal in a new commercial (which you can see here) that is being aired during the Super Bowl and Winter Olympics.
Universal Orlando is getting a coaster with the same name in 2027, but it won’t be the same ride experience. While the Hollywood version works with the terrain of the Universal City hillside, the Orlando coaster is being built on a flat plot of land once occupied by the Rip Ride Rockit coaster before its demise last year.
