Orlando ranked third on the list of best-value summer vacation destinations released Wednesday by online travel site TripAdvisor.com.
The 2016 Summer Vacation Value Report ranks the top-10 vacation destinations based on booking interest, and also includes information on the average cost of hotels, airfare, meals and tourist attractions in the area.
According to the report, the average weeklong summer trip to the City Beautiful costs $1,932, including a hotel at $137 a night, a $336 roundtrip plane ticket, three meals and two tourist attractions a day, making it the least expensive city on the list.
The only cities placing above Orlando were Las Vegas, with an average cost $2,224, and Cancun, Mexico, which would cost travelers $2,480. Also making the top-10 was Destin, which came in at No. 8 with a one-week trop costing $2,807 on average.
In addition to ranking the locales, TripAdvisor also lists the best time to travel and the least expensive hotels and sights to book for vacationers looking to save a few bucks.
The sweet spot for an Orlando vacation is the week of Aug. 22, when those making the trip can save about $200 off the summer average, and the “Best Value” hotel was listed as the Drury Inn & Suites. The top Orlando-area attraction, surprisingly, was the Kennedy Space Center, which costs $52 a person.
The prices stated in the report are based on trips between June 1 and Aug. 31, and only include products bookable through the TripAdvisor website.
