The first-ever dive coaster to break the 300-foot mark in height will not open on Friday, June 26, as Six Flags Over Texas had originally announced.

Tormenta: Rampaging Run is 309 feet tall with a 285-foot first drop taken at a 95-degree angle. Beyond its record height for a dive coaster, the ride will also set dive coaster records for speed (87 mph) and length (4,199 feet of track), as well as spot the tallest vertical loop on any coaster at 179 feet.

On June 16, Six Flags Over Texas said the coaster would open on June 26. However, that opening date is now called off due to testing delays.

No new opening date has been announced.

Since the current Six Flags corporation came into being with its summer 2024 merger with Cedar Fair, the chain has seen more coasters close than new coasters added and delays have been common. Six Flags New England pushed back the opening of its Quantum Accelerator into the next operating season and projects at Six Flags Great Adventure and Magic Mountain have also been pushed into future years after their initial reveals.

The new coaster — built by Swiss coaster firm Bolliger & Mabillard, the same designers of other dive coasters in the Six Flags chain — will anchor a new section of the park’s Spain area called Rancho de la Tormenta. The setting for the new section will be “an old and secluded Spanish village,” according to Six Flags, which is celebrating an annual festival to honor the “ranch hands who raised the castle that brought prosperity to the community.”

Tormenta Rampaging Run will be the 14th roller coaster at the Arlington, Texas park, replacing the defunct La Vibora, which closed in 2024. It’s the first brand-new coaster for Six Flags Over Texas since the Aquaman: Power Wave debuted in 2023.
