Revenue at Comcast Corporation’s theme park division surged 9 percent to $1.1 billion, according to a first quarter report given to analysts Thursday by CEO Brian Roberts.
Comcast’s NBCUniversal division, which runs Universal Orlando Resort, delivered a $14.7 percent growth in revenue, along with a 24.4 percent growth before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.
The division was boosted by a 60 percent increase in attendance at Universal Studios Hollywood, following the opening of its Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Since 2011, when Comcast first took over NBCUniversal, its theme parks have been one of its biggest source of revenue.
Roberts said, “2017 is off to the fastest start in five years. These impressive results were fueled by exceptionally strong film performance, increased affiliate and retransmission revenues at our TV businesses and continued growth in theme parks. “
Comcast reported a 20 percent increase in net income for the quarter, $2.57 billion from $2.13 billion a year earlier. Total earnings climbed by more than 23 percent.
