Disney Imagineers are working backstage to upgrade its iconic Jungle Cruise ride, according to an Instagram post by actor Dwayne Johnson.
Johnson, known as “The Rock,” is starring in Disney’s upcoming Jungle Cruise film and told his followers he was working with Imagineers to “re-engineer and re-design the Jungle Cruise ride in all Disney theme parks around the world.”
Disney has released no details on changes to the riverboat cruise that can be found in Adventureland at Walt Disney World, Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland. The ride is called Jungle River Cruise at Hong Kong Disneyland. It was one of the premier rides when Walt Disney World opened in 1971.
“This is such an amazing, fantastical and cool world to build out,” said the former professional wrestler and University of Miamia football player on Instagram. “Best part about this surprise research day was knowing how FUN of an experience we’re gonna work hard to create for families around the world.”
The last major update to the Jungle Cruise occurred in 2006 when Piranha Attack and Trapped Safari scenes were added and the Gorilla Camp, African Veldt and Headhunter Territory were improved.
There is no release date yet for the Jungle Cruise movie, which takes the attraction back to the 1951 film classic “The African Queen,” which stared Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn and was one of the original inspirations for the ride.
