Not all construction on Epic Universe will be halted, as existing road work and site preparation will continue.
"We remain very confident that the parks business will generate healthy returns over the long term,” said Brian Roberts, chairman and CEO of Universal’s parent company, Comcast.
The coronavirus pandemic means Universal Orlando's theme parks, hotels, and CityWalk will stay closed until at least April 19. Employees will still be paid during that time.
Universal Orlando’s parent company has officially announced that the Orlando version of Super Nintendo World will be a part of the new Epic Universe theme park opening in 2023.
“We recently announced we are doing a fourth gate in Orlando in 2023,” said NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke. “We think the theme park business is a great business for us.”
