Six Flags Great Adventure already has a major new roller coaster under construction for 2027 — but that won’t be the next coaster added to the park.

In a Friday press release, the Jackson, New Jersey park said, “Construction is underway on the park’s 14th roller coaster, set to debut within the newly transformed Boardwalk area.” The only clue offered for that new coaster’s identity was a single piece of blue track.

Multiple sources, including Theme Park Insider, have reported that the blue track appears to be a repainted piece of Ragin’ Cajun, a spinning Wild Mouse coaster that was located at Six Flags America in Maryland before its closure late last year. While Theme Park Tribune cannot definitively confirm that Great Adventure’s coaster is Ragin’ Cajun, the tracks do appear similar and the spinning coaster was disassembled, rather than demolished, after Six Flags America shut down.

Ragin’ Cajun also has been moved before, having originally operated at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois from 2004 to 2013 before being carted off to Maryland.

The separate addition from the previously-announced 2027 coaster project. Now being called “Project Purple,” this coaster will replace the demolished Kingda Ka — which reigned for nearly two decades as the tallest coaster in the world — and Great Adventure had promised the new coaster would break multiple world records.

“Project Purple,” the park’s 15th coaster, was originally supposed to debut in 2026, but was then pushed back a year in a July 2025 email to passholders.

As for the mystery 14th coaster, Great Adventure did not say when the ride will open. The park is scheduled to open with a passholder preview on March 27 from 5 to 9 p.m., followed by its full opening day on March 28.
