Lucasfilm announced Thursday it will build two new immersive Star Wars attractions at Disney Springs and Disneyland’s Downtown Disney by the end of the year.
Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire will be a hyper-reality experience created by ILMxLAB, Lucasfilm’s entertainment division, in collaboration with THE VOID. The attractions will open in two new VOID Experience Centers at Downtown Disney and Disney Springs during the holiday season.
The attractions will allow fans to move freely in an untethered, social, and multi-sensory experience, while interacting with friends and Star Wars characters, according to the Lucasfilm press release.
“At THE VOID, we combine the magic of illusions, advanced technology and virtual reality to create fully immersive social experiences that take guests to new worlds,” said Curtis Hickman, co-founder and chief creative officer at THE VOID. “A truly transformative experience is so much more than what you see with your eyes; it’s what you hear, feel, touch, and even smell.”
Vicki Dobbs Beck, executive in charge of ILMxLAB, said guests will become active participants in an unfolding Star Wars adventure by combining Lucasfilm’s storytelling expertise with cutting-edge imagery, and immersive sound from the team at Skywalker Sound.
Lucasfilm is a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company, which is building two new Star Wars lands at Hollywood Studios and Disneyland.
