Six Flags Great America’s big 2025 addition, Wrath of Rakshasa, will open to the public on May 31.
The 180-foot-tall dive coaster sports a 171-foot, 96-degree first drop over the County Fair midway, coming close to one of the park’s original rides, Demon. The layout includes five inversions over 3,239 feet of track.
Like other recent dive coasters from Swiss coaster firm Bolliger & Mabillard — the same company behind other favorites at the Gurnee, Illinois park like Raging Bull and X-Flight — Wrath of Rakshasa will not have a mid-course brake run to slow the train down.
Some local TV reporters got the chance to ride on Thursday, including WGN TV’s Marcus Leshock and CBS News Chicago’s Darius Johnson.
Wrath of Rakshasa is the first new coaster to open at Great America since 2019’s Maxx Force. Its May 31 opening will end the longest drought between new coasters in the park’s 49-year history.
