Six Flags Great America opens for its 2022 season on April 15, but its newest section won’t be ready.
Announced just last month, the DC Universe section of the park is a minor retheme of the existing Yankee Harbor. Already home to Batman: The Ride and The Joker roller coasters, the park is retheming the area’s other three rides with DC Comics characters.
In a press release hyping its opening weekend, the park said the new section would open later this spring. The official reason given by the park for the delay is “excessive rain and supply chain issues.”

Theme Park Tribune has learned from sources at Great America that this will create a traffic headache for park guests. At least for the park’s opening weekend, the plan is to close off the DC Universe area entirely, creating a dead end on either side and preventing visitors from completing a full, uninterrupted lap around the park.
The rethemed land is the only addition for Great America’s 2022 season. The park last added a roller coaster in 2019 with Maxx Force, though its rides were closed for all of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
