Six Flags Great America will kick off its 2024 season on April 20, according to a recent update of the park’s calendar.

The April 20 opening date for the Gurnee, Illinois park was first reported by NBC Chicago on Monday. An unnamed park spokesperson said more information about opening day would be posted on the Great America website and social media accounts in the coming weeks.

The 2024 season will see the debut of the park’s newest ride, Sky Striker, a 172-foot-tall pendulum ride built by Zamperla. The same model already operates at Six Flags Magic Mountain as CraZanity and is being added in 2024 to Six Flags St. Louis under the name The Joker: Carnival of Chaos.

Great America’s version of the ride is being built on the former home of the Skycoaster attraction Dare Devil Dive, and will be located next to the queue of the American Eagle roller coaster.

Sky Striker is Six Flags Great America’s first new ride since 2019, when it added the 78-mph Maxx Force launch coaster.
