Six Flags Great America is giving guests another option to see their holiday light displays, this time from the safety of their cars.

The Gurnee, Illinois park’s Holiday In The Park Drive-Thru Experience will be held on select days starting Dec. 16 through Jan. 18, 2021. Guests will get to see 11 different themed areas along the route, such as Merry Mardi Gras, The North Pole and Snowman City.

“There’s no shortage of magic with over three million dazzling lights, seasonal music favorites and special holiday characters to see along the way,” the park said in a press release.

Tickets will cost $15 per person and must be reserved in advance. 2021 season passholders and Six Flags members will receive free admission, but they will also have to reserve a time slot.

The drive-thru dates will not overlap with dates for the park’s existing (and car-less) Holiday in the Park Lights event, which started last month. Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey is also running both events during the holiday. Other parks with greater state-level restrictions, like Six Flags Magic Mountain, are only offering the drive-thru event.

Great America has among the Six Flags parks which never fully opened in 2020, though its Hurricane Harbor water park was allowed to operate beginning in July. Under Illinois’ COVID-19 reopening plan, amusement parks cannot reopen until a vaccine or effective treatment is widely available or there are no new cases over a sustained period.

That isn’t the case right now. Illinois confirmed 8,256 new COVID-19 cases and 179 new COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday. Across the state, more than 5,200 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized and 1,176 are in intensive care units.
