Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio has set an opening date for its record-breaking dive coaster, Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger.

The 95-degree first drop is the steepest in the world on a dive coaster, sending riders down from the 150-feet top height at 60 miles per hour.

“Six Flags Fiesta Texas continues to push the limits of thrill and innovation as we prepare to introduce the world’s steepest dive coaster during our 30th anniversary season,” Fiesta Texas park president Jeffrey Siebert said in a press release. “Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger joins an already stellar lineup of record-breaking roller coasters, rides, and attractions.”

The ride will also feature a 75-foot, near-vertical second drop and two inversions, along with a steampunk theme.

As Six Flags explained in its press release, “As guests enter the ride queue, they will be immersed in the story of Dr. Diabolical and her evil quest to create menacing creatures to frighten the world. To give her creations life, Dr. Diabolical constructed a machine to capture the essence of human adrenaline and fear.

This is the 16th dive coaster built by Bolliger & Mabillard, having been preceded by Emperor at SeaWorld San Diego, which opened earlier this year. The new coaster not only marks the 30th anniversary of Fiesta Texas, but a renewed relationship between Six Flags and B&M.

The two companies were once frequent partners, with B&M’s inverted, flying, floorless, and hyper coaster models spreading throughout the Six Flags chain in the 90s and 2000s. However, Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger is the first B&M coaster built by Six Flags since X-Flight at Six Flags Great America opened in 2012.
