In a growing trend for the Six Flags, one of its parks is delaying the expected opening year for a new roller coaster.
Six Flags Magic Mountain confirmed to the Orange County Register Tuesday that its suspended thrill coaster has been delayed to 2027. The chain had revealed in late 2024 that Magic Mountain would be getting a new coaster in 2026 and permits filed earlier this year called it a “Thrill Glider” coaster built by Dutch coaster firm Vekoma.
But the coaster’s construction site has seen little activity in recent months.
Coaster fans across the country have gotten used to delays in new rides since Six Flags merged with Cedar Fair in the summer of 2024. Since then, the chain has pushed back two different coaster openings at Six Flags Great Adventure, an expanded DC Universe area at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and a coaster at Six Flags New England.
Six Flags tried to soften the blow of the coaster delay by announcing a different new project for 2026: a major overhaul of its kids area.
The current Bugs Bunny World will get a makeover into Looney Tunes Land. According to Six Flags’ press release, the remade land will be divided into four sections called Taz-mania, Road Runner Ridge, Bugs Bunny Play Park and Camp Duck Amuck.

The overhaul includes adding two new play areas and retheming five existing rides. However, some rides will also be removed, including:
- Magic Flyer roller coaster
- Speedy Gonzales Hot Rod Racers roller coaster
- Tweety’s Birdcage
- Pepe Le Pew’s Tea Party
Looney Tunes Land’s construction is planned to be carried over in phases starting in January, with the entire land ready to open in the summer, according to Six Flags.
The removal of two kids’ roller coasters will mean Magic Mountain will no longer be able to claim to have the most roller coasters of any theme park. The closure of Superman: Escape from Krypton had already placed it into a tie with Poland’s Energylandia with 19. Further reducing its coaster count to 17 means Magic Mountain will no longer have the North American record either, as that title will now fall to Cedar Point, which has 18 coasters.
