The sophomore edition of Howl-O-Scream at SeaWorld Orlando will include two new scare zones and a new stage show.
SeaWorld announced in a Tuesday press release that the new show would be called “Lurking in the Depths,” without offering any other details. The park also did not include any backstory for the new Sea of Fear scare zone, but did provide some background on the other addition, Cut Throat Cove.
The SeaWorld website said of this new-for-2022 scare zone:
“This is it…the site of that horrific shipwreck. Those marauding pirates were too arrogant to see their downfall coming, and now they’re doomed to wander through a sea of gruesome reminders. Their souls are restless, and their anger is real. They’ll never stop seeking revenge on those who’ve escaped their ghostly fate. Steer clear—if you can.”
The park also confirmed that one other scare zone featured last year, Frozen Terror, would be “reimagined” for the 2022 event. The Captain’s Revenge – Drowned in Sorrow haunted house and the Longshoremen’s Tavern bar are also listed as being back in “reimagined” form this fall, while the Beneath The Ice house and Tormented bar are identified as returning (but not “reimagined”) for 2022.
Along with the houses, scare zones, shows, and themed bars, nighttime coaster rides are part of the Howl-O-Scream offerings. SeaWorld Orlando’s newest coaster, Ice Breaker, will be a part of the festivities this year.
Howl-O-Scream Orlando runs on select nights from Sept. 9 through Halloween. The park is promoting this year’s event as “bigger and better” than 2021, when it featured four haunted houses, four scare zones, and two shows, so Halloween haunt fans can expect more announcements in the coming weeks.
