Universal Orlando has revealed the closing date of its Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster, shifting its farewell forward.
The Universal website says the ride “will permanently close on August 18, 2025 to make way for a new experience.” Previously, the resort said the coaster would be closing in early September.
As is Universal’s custom, they have not officially announced any replacement. Rumors among theme park fans expect that the ride’s footprint will be taken over by another coaster, but there has been no confirmation of those rumors.
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit opened in 2009 at Universal Studios Florida. Built by German manufacturer Maurer, it was the first outdoor coaster at the park and a rare addition that wasn’t based on a movie or TV franchise.
Rumblings about its closure began in earnest ever since its on-ride song choices — once its signature feature — were greatly reduced in August 2023.
The only other coasters to be closed at Universal were the two sides of Dragon Challenge (originally Dueling Dragons), which shuttered in 2017.
