When the Orlando Sentinel asked for documents about electrical shocks felt by guests to Universal’s Volcano Bay, the Orlando Utilities Commission’s first move was to check with Universal.

According to a report from Sentinel tourism reporter Gabrielle Russon, when the newspaper made the request on June 6, OUC attorney Chris Browder immediately forwarded it to a Universal attorney.

“Please remind them that we have a confidentiality agreement with Universal … that we’re supposed to let them know when information is requested in the event they want to intervene and block it,” wrote Browder to an OUC staffer in a June 7 email.

The exchange was revealed as part of a second records request. OUC defended its handling of the situation.

Discovery Cove welcomes new flamingos

A flamboyance of flamingos — yes, that’s what you call them — has arrived at SeaWorld Orlando’s Discovery Cove.

Evenly split between males and females, the group of eight are housed in an “expansive new habit,” according to a SeaWorld press release.

“We’re delighted to welcome this beautiful flamboyance of flamingos to Discovery Cove and give our guests a wonderful opportunity to observe these amazing animals,” said park president Kyle Miller. “To celebrate their arrival, we’re encouraging travelers to take advantage of great end-of-summer savings at Discovery Cove and welcome the flamingos in person.”
