The national travel and automotive group AAA released its annual “Summer Travel Destinations” survey of top vacation spots.
Topping the list? Florida’s very own City Beautiful.
Orlando was ranked the best place to plan a trip in the United States according to the new report.
Seattle, Los Angeles, Honolulu, and Las Vegas scored the second through fifth spots in the survey. Anchorage, New York City, Maui, San Francisco and Denver rounded out the top ten.
“Orlando remains a top draw for travelers of all ages,” said AAA President and CEO Joseph J. Richardson Jr. on the occasion of the survey’s release Thursday.
“The ‘City Beautiful’ is world renowned for its world famous theme parks, top notch hotels and restaurants, all sandwiched between some of the most beautiful beaches in the world,” Richardson said.
The AAA report also heralded the return of “the great American road trip,” saying nearly 56 percent of Americans plan a driving vacation this summer.
The lowest summertime gas prices in 11 years are prompting Americans, according to an AAA survey. More than half of respondents said a decline in fuel costs led them to consider taking a road trip for summer vacation, instead of flying domestically or overseas.
AAA also released results of its top international destinations along with the domestic data.
Rome, London, Cancun, Vancouver, and Paris were named the top destinations for American travelers with a more global taste in summertime destinations according to the survey of bookings made through AAA for June 1 through August 15.
