Orlando International Airport‘s new people mover at the Intermodal Terminal Facility and a much-needed parking garage are slated to open by Thanksgiving.
The new additions will help boost the airport’s capacity from 40 million to 45 million passengers annually. The 13th busiest airport in the nation is handling nearly 44 million passengers each year.
The 1.3 million square-foot Intermodal Terminal Facility (ITF) will accommodate up to three regional rail systems including SunRail, Brightline, and possibly a magnetic levitation system serving the International Drive area. It will also be the hub for taxis, shuttles and public buses.
Airline officials expect Brightline service to begin in 2020.
A shuttle ride from the North Terminal to the new ITF is about 1.5 miles long, with an average trip lasting three minutes.
