The revamp of the Montezooma’s Revenge roller coaster is not dead, Knott’s Berry Farm announced Friday.

The original coaster closed in 2022 for a renovation for a transformation into MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress, featuring new theming outside the coaster and a new, randomized launch sequence replacing the ride’s classic flywheel launch.

That project missed its planned debut in 2023 alongside the overhauled Fiesta Village. With no work occurring at the site for months, all while most of the track had already been removed, led to unsourced speculation that the ride wouldn’t reopen in any form.

No reason was given for the delay, but the overhauled ride is now set to open in 2025, according to Knott’s.

Since its 2022 closure, the coaster lineup at the Buena Park, California park was further depleted by the loss of the Timberline Twister kiddie coaster and a 20-month closure of the 205-foot-tall Xcelerator. The latter reopened in November, while the former is being replaced later this year with the new Snoopy’s Tenderpaw Twister Coaster

The Branson, Missouri theme park entrusted the $30 million rebuild to Rocky Mountain Construction, the coaster firm known for its hybrid coaster conversions like Iron Gwazi at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. This project is RMC’s first indoor coaster and its first creation with onboard audio.

In typical RMC fashion, the ride will have at least one pop of airtime, according to Silver Dollar City spokesperson Dalton Fischer.

Hersheypark’s Skyrush getting new seats and restraints

Hersheypark’s Skyrush will be getting “all-new seats and restraints” for the 2024 season, the Pennsylvania park announced Thursday.

The 200-foot-tall, Intamin-built hyper coaster is one of the most divisive among roller coaster fans largely due to its restraints, earning the ride the nickname “Thigh Crush.”

Despite this reputation, it has repeatedly been ranked as among the top steel coasters by the Golden Ticket Awards since its 2012 debut.

Hersheypark said the new restraints and seats will be in place when the park opens for the 2024 season on March 29. The park added the RMC hybrid coaster Wildcat’s Revenge last year.
