Six Flags Great Adventure will open its newest coaster, Flash: Vertical Velocity, on March 29, the park announced Tuesday.
While the ride shares its name with coasters at Six Flags Great America and Discovery Kingdom, what’s coming to Jackson, New Jersey is actually a first-of-its-kind coaster model for the U.S.

Flash: Vertical Velocity is a Super Boomerang model built by Vekoma, the same firm behind many of Disney’s recent coasters, featuring a top speed of 59 mph, two inversions and a 180-degree twisted drop.
The only other Super Boomerang in the world opened in 2023 at Chinese theme park Fantawild Wonderland, with a layout which appears to be identical to Flash: Vertical Velocity.

Great Adventure was originally set to debut this coaster in 2024 as part of the park’s 50th anniversary before being delayed.

Vertical Velocity’s addition will bring Great Adventure’s coaster count back to 13 after lost two rides last fall with the sudden closures of Kingda Ka and Green Lantern. Another coaster is supposed to be added to the park in 2026, with Great Adventure so far describing the ride only as a “multi-world-record-breaking launch roller coaster.”
