New film coming to Epcot’s The Land pavilion

The unused Harvest Theater at The Land pavilion at Epcot will soon play host to an new film focused on the environment, “Awesome Planet.”

The theater has been used mainly for the Disney Performing Arts youth programs since “Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable” closed in February 2018. Disney described the new movie as “an on-screen exploration of the realm we call home.”

“With spectacular nature photography, immersive in-theater effects, and space sequences created by none other than Industrial Light & Magic (which provided the cinematic foundation for the Star Wars franchise), ‘Awesome Planet’ will stir Epcot guests and deliver an environmental message that will resonate far beyond its final scenes,” Disney Parks editorial content director Thomas Smith wrote on the Disney Parks Blog.

The film is one of several new theater experiences coming to Epcot as part of a major overhaul of the park. As announced at the D23 Expo in 2017, the China pavilion will be getting a replacement for “Reflections of China.” The Canada pavilion will also get an updated film, with the current version having debuted in 2007.

With the new film, Disney World’s list of ongoing or upcoming construction projects at Epcot continues to grow. Beyond the recently-announced redesign of the park’s entrance plaza, new rides based on “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Ratatouille” are being built, new restaurants are being constructed in the Japan pavilion and next to the Mission: Space attraction, and the former Wonders of Life building is being transformed into a new interactive “play pavilion.”
