Six Flags Great America will be adding a five-inversion dive roller coaster with a 96-degree first drop next year.
The coaster, called Wrath of Rakshasa, will be 180 feet tall with a 171-foot first drop and maximum speed of 67 mph over 3,239 feet of track. Like other dive coasters, it’s being designed by Swiss coaster firm Bolliger & Mabillard, the same company behind other favorites at the Gurnee, Illinois park like Raging Bull and X-Flight.

The 96-degree first drop and five inversions will set new records as the steepest first drop and most inversions on a dive coaster, respectively.
“Wrath of Rakshasa joins our already impressive lineup of record-breaking roller coasters and attractions at the park, demonstrating our commitment to delivering cutting-edge experiences for our guests,” Great America park president John Krajnak said in a statement.
As shown in the trailer video released by Six Flags, the new coaster will be located in the County Fair section of the park, with the first drop over the footpath between the defunct Buccaneer Battle water ride (which officially closed in 2023) and the still-operating Demon roller coaster.
Wrath of Rakshasa is larger than other recent B&M dive coasters such as SeaWorld San Diego’s Emperor, Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and Iron Menace at Dorney Park. All three of those dive coasters were less than 2,501 feet long and under 160 feet tall.
The 2025 coaster will be the 16th in Six Flags Great America’s lineup and the first new addition since 2019’s Maxx Force — ending the longest drought between new coasters in the park’s 48-year history. It’s also the park’s first addition under new corporate management following the merger of Six Flags and Cedar Fair, which was completed in July.
