Walt Disney World just released a video revealing exactly how they came up with their newest drone show, Starbright Holidays.

The nighttime aerial show was top secret during the planning stages. It launched last month at Disney Springs with the Wish Upon a Star theme as more than 300 Intel Shooting Star drones circled overhead in an orchestrated musical ballet. The drones whiz above the shopping venue creating traditional holiday shapes like Christmas trees and angels, then dissolving in midair before morphing into another form.

The inspiration for the show came from the 2010 Disney animated movie, Tangled, when thousands of lanterns were released into the sky over the Kingdom of Corona, according to Disney Imagineer Loyal Pyczynski.

The show demonstrates what the first generation of drones can do and the video hints at more tricks in the future.

The best viewing areas are along the water’s edge behind Bongo’s restaurant and Exhibition Park on the west side of Disney Springs. A close second is on the opposite side of the lake behind the Saratoga Springs Resort.
