A Mattel Adventure Park is set to open in Bonner Springs, Kansas in 2026, the second planned theme park from toy giant Mattel and developer Epic Resort Destinations.

The Kansas City-area park is planned to include attractions already announced for the other Mattel Adventure Park, which is under construction in Glendale, Arizona. That slate of rides include two Hot Wheels-themed roller coasters — Hot Wheels Twin Mill Racer and Bone Shaker: The Ultimate Ride — along with a Barbie-themed flying theater attraction and a kids’ area themed around the “Thomas & Friends” TV series.

“Mattel Adventure Park Kansas City will bring our iconic brands to life with epic roller coasters, family-friendly attractions, an immersive theatre, themed dining, and so much more,” Mattel chief franchise officer Josh Silverman said in a press release. “We are thrilled to expand these themed entertainment destinations and invite new fans to experience the world of Mattel in all-new ways as they create lasting memories with loved ones.”

The Wednesday announcement did not identify an exact location for the planned park. The Kansas City Star reported that Epic Resorts Destination had approached the Bonner Springs City Council last month asking for the creation of a special bond district just west of the Kansas Speedway.

A public meeting to consider the proposal is now scheduled for April 8.

If the project comes to fruition, it would give the Kansas City region a second major theme park to compete with the Cedar Fair-owned Worlds of Fun, located about 30 minutes away in Missouri and east of Kansas City proper.

The original Mattel Adventure Park in Arizona has yet to open, having been delayed several times from its original 2022 opening. The most recent update from the park promised that it would debut later this year.
