What may be the biggest new roller coaster opening in 2025 has just been revealed by Kings Dominion.

For its 50th anniversary season, the Doswell, Virginia park will be adding Rapterra, a launched wing coaster built by Swiss coaster firm Bolliger & Mabillard.

According to Kings Dominion, the new coaster will be 145 feet tall, 3,086 feet long and hit a top speed of 65 miles per hour, while including three inversions over 89 seconds of ride time.

Here’s an animated view of the ride experience:

“We are excited to unveil Rapterra, the must-do ride of 2025, at Kings Dominion,” Bridgette Bywater, vice president and general manager of Kings Dominion, said in a statement. “This extraordinary addition promises new thrills for our guests, making it the perfect centerpiece for our 50th anniversary celebration and reaffirming why Kings Dominion is the ultimate destination for unforgettable memories and exhilarating excitement.”

Coaster construction is already underway, as seen in these recent photos from KDFans.com:

The ride is being built in the park’s Jungle X-Pedition area, which debuted in 2022. Rapterra will be taking over a portion of the site once occupied by Volcano: The Blast Coaster, a launched inverted coaster which operated from 1998 to 2018.

The new ride will be only the second wing coaster in the U.S. to feature a launch, the other being Holiday World’s Thunderbird.
