The “Star Wars” overlay of Space Mountain is returning to Disneyland starting May 1.
Hyperspace Mountain rethemes the classic Disneyland coaster with the John Williams “Star Wars” score alongside projections showing a space battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, complete with X-wings zooming between TIE fighters and Star Destroyers.
The overlay will be in place until June 4 as part of Star Wars Month, a newly-announced promotional event at Disneyland Resort. Disney has yet to say exactly what else it will offer for that month, but the dates do overlap with previously-revealed Disneyland After Dark: “Star Wars” Nite. That hard-ticket event is already sold out for all of its dates: May 2, 4, 8 and 11.
Hyperspace Mountain first debuted at Disneyland in November 2015 to mark the release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and has returned intermittently ever since, most recently from May 4 to July 5, 2022.
The overlay has been made permanent in Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. In Anaheim, however, fans of the original Space Mountain can expect the original ride to be back up and running the very next day after Hyperspace Mountain closes on June 4.
