Cedar Point’s Top Thrill 2 roller coaster will debut on April 28 as part of a charity event — six days ahead of its grand opening and the start of Cedar Point’s 2024 season on May 4.

Top Thrill 2 is a revamp on the old Top Thrill Dragster, which closed in 2021 following an accident. The reworked ride now has a multi-pass launch and a second 420-foot tower

The Sandusky, Ohio park announced several options Friday on how guests can get on the reworked coaster before the general public.

April 28, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.: Prayers From Maria Charity Ride

The earliest option is a $120 charity event that benefits the Prayers From Maria Foundation, a nonprofit which funds research into childhood brain tumors. The event will have “extremely limited capacity,” according to Cedar Point, but will allow guests to ride Top Thrill 2 multiple times, along with some other Cedar Point attractions, including Power Tower, Corkscrew, Super Himalaya and Magnum XL-200.

Complimentary food and drinks will be included, along with a special Top Thrill 2 gift. Tickets for the charity event go on sale on April 3.

April 28, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Prestige Passholder Preview

After the charity event, Cedar Point Prestige Passholder can register for a free, assigned time slot to get on Top Thrill 2 — but only once. The same rides listed above will also be open during this period, and Top Thrill 2 merch will be on sale at the new CP Racing Store location. The BackBeatQue restaurant will also be open for dining.

The eligibility for this preview is limited to Prestige-level passes purchased at Cedar Point. If you have a Prestige pass for a different park in the Cedar Fair chain, you can’t sign up for this preview, even with the All-Park Passport benefit added on.

April 28, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.: 2023 Coastermania Keychain Holder Preview

Overlapping with the Prestige Passholder preview is one tied to a keychain handed out at last year’s Coastermania event. Here’s what they look like:

If you have one of these keychains, you’ll be able to register, for free, for a time slot to ride Top Thrill 2 and present the keychain at the front gate as your admission to Cedar Point. Like the passholder preview, keychain holders will only get to ride Top Thrill 2 once.

April 30 to May 2, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.: Cedar Point Gold & Summer Passholder Previews

The last preview opportunities are for Cedar Point Gold and Summer Passholders on three weekdays just ahead of the May 4 grand opening. The same restrictions apply; passholders can register for a single time slot over those three days to ride Top Thrill 2 once. The same rides listed above will be open, too, as will the CP Racing Store and BackBeatQue.

Gold Passholders from other Cedar Fair parks are not eligible for this preview, and Prestige Passholders cannot sign up for another time slot here — they will have to get a slot in their own dedicated preview event on April 28.

Registration for all the preview events will open on Wednesday, April 3.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that the price of the April 28 charity preview was $150. The correct price is $120. Theme Park Tribune apologizes for the error.
