A redneck adventure through swampy alligator graveyards is in the works for Gatorland’s largest expansion since opening as a roadside attraction in 1949.

Stompin’ Gator Off-Road Adventure, which opens in September, will take visitors through ponds, mud puddles and scrubland along the eastern section of the 110-acre home to the Alligator Capital of the World in Kissimmee.

The 20-minute journey includes a stop to feed gators from the 12-foot-high, open-air buggies. The monster-trucks are named after some of the park’s iconic animals: Cannibal Jack, Bonecrusher and Swamp Ghost,

Mark McHugh, president and CEO of Gatorland, described the ride as more authentic than “the tamer theme park rides.”

The $2 million project includes three, 12-passenger buggies and a 3,900-square-foot Gator Joe’s Adventure Outpost, named for Ernest “Gator Joe” Brown, a longtime employee who died in 2013.

The off-road adventure will come with an upcharge between $10 and $15, in addition to Gatorland admission.
