Four Disney theme parks in the U.S. are getting some new in the coming years, as Disney revealed at its biennial D23 Expo.

The 2024 presentation immediately set a different tone than previous D23 Expos, where Disney revealed several projects which never came to fruition or showed noncommittal “blue sky” concepts.

Disney California Adventure arguably received the most attention in the presentation. The park is officially getting a new land based around the “Avatar” franchise. It won’t be the same as the existing land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom either.

Disney California Adventure will also be home to a new ride based around Pixar’s “Coco.”

There was also some news about the previously-announced ride at Avengers Campus seeing the Avengers take on an alternate version of Thanos. The attraction will be called Avengers: Infinity Defense and construction is set to start next year.

Avengers Campus is growing elsewhere with another new attraction that’s never been discussed before: Stark Flight Lab. Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Tony Stark for the new ride.

Across the esplanade at Disneyland, Disney revealed that the West Coast version of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open on Nov. 15, 2024.

Millennium Falcon’s Smuggler Run at both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will get a new mission featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu, the first change made to the attraction since its 2019 debut.

Speaking of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, that park will get a new “Monsters Inc.”-themed land, featuring a suspended coaster themed around the “doors” sequence from the 2001 Pixar film.

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the park is getting the long-rumored retheme of DinoLand U.S.A. into a Tropical Americas section, including a new “Indiana Jones” ride and an experience themed around “Encanto.”

In 2025, the park will debut the previously-announced “Zootopia” retheme of the It’s Tough to Be a Bug attraction. The new show will be called Zootopia: Better Zoogether.

No new rides were announced for Epcot. The only addition revealed for the park was a new lounge by Spaceship Earth.

One of the most surprising announcements was for Magic Kingdom, where two “Cars” attractions will be coming to Frontierland.

The world’s most-visited theme park is also getting a long-awaited new nighttime parade called “Disney Starlight,” which will debut in 2025.

Disney saved what may be the biggest reveal for last. Magic Kingdom will be getting a new land themed all around Disney villains, with two new (and still unrevealed) attractions. Construction on the land has already begun, but no opening timeframe was discussed.

According to post on the official Disney Parks Blog, “this new land will be home to the Disney Villains we know and loathe from our favorite Walt Disney Animation Studios classic films — “Which means happily ever after may feel like just a distant dream. The evil ambition of all these Villains means that the possibilities are endless for the stories that can be told — and visitors to the dark and thorny land should be prepared for whatever chaos might come their way.”
