Major expansions to the Disneyland Resort are still years away from fruition, but there are still active construction projects and refurbishments happening around the two California parks as the resort prepares for its 70th anniversary celebration later this year.
The first such project is apparent soon after entering Disneyland, as the Disneyland Railroad and all of its stations are currently down for a track replacement project, following up on a similar closure that lasted from August until late October. The Disneyland Monorail is also closed, with no reopening dates announced yet for either transportation system.

Right next to the closed Main Street Station is another shuttered attraction, Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln, at the Main Street Opera House. The attraction has temporarily offline since last April as Disney installs Walt Disney – A Magical Life, another animatronic show (this one starring Walt Disney himself) that will share the space with Lincoln beginning in May.
Unlike some past Lincoln refurbishments, this project has also closed down the exhibit space at the Opera House, though the Disneyana shop remains open.

Heading towards Sleeping Beauty Castle, you’ll undoubtedly notice the scaffolding surrounding the Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe. The dining location closed for renovations on Jan. 7, 2025, but the outdoor seating area is still partially available.

Beyond Main Street and the castle hub, Disneyland is largely open, thanks to recently-completed projects at the Haunted Mansion and the now-open Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Our visit to Disneyland came one of the final days in operation for the holiday version of It’s a Small World; the attraction will be closed until spring 2025 for an extended refurbishment.

Heading over to Disney California Adventure, the Red Car Trolley is still running until Feb. 8, 2025. Disney has said the trolley will remain stationary afterwards for photo ops along Buena Vista Street, with no word on if it will ever be put back into service.

The Red Car Trolley’s demise is due to the upcoming expansion of the Avengers Campus. The Marvel-themed land is getting two new rides in the coming years, Stark Flight Lab and Avengers: Infinity Defense, with the latter representing the long-delayed Avengers E-Ticket attraction that was planned to be built behind the existing Avengers building. No construction work appears visible from inside the park yet, but that may change once the Red Car Trolley gives its final ride.

Along Buena Vista Street, scaffolding covers the facade of the Elias & Co. store, but this is only exterior work, as the shop itself remains open.

The only other notable closure inside DCA is the usual winter closure of Grizzly River Run. The river rapids ride sits empty and dry, as it often does during the colder months. The water ride is expected to be back open on March 14.
