Disney World offering 5 days of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge passholder previews

Certain Disney World annual passholders will have the chance to preview Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios from Aug. 17-21.

Disney confirmed the dates for the previously announced passholder previews on its website Tuesday. Platinium, Platinum Plus, and Premier Passport passholders will be able to sign up for a four-hour time slot to visit the land — similar to the system used during the 14-acre land’s first few weeks of operation at Disneyland.

Invitations to register are expected to be sent out soon via email and capacity will be limited.

Passholders are already being warned they won’t be able to experience everything in Galaxy’s Edge during their preview. While Disney says there will be no restrictions on shopping, dining, exploring Black Spire Outpost or riding the land’s only available ride, Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, passholders will have to choose between a reservation at Oga’s Cantina or building a $200 lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop. Both experiences come with additional restrictions, such as a two-drink maximum at Oga’s.

Disney’s terms include a warning that preview reservations “may not be sold or bartered” or transferred to another guest. While passholder can register a guest to bring along, that companion also has to have a qualifying annual pass and be listed on the registrant’s Family & Friends list.

Disney World cast members will get the first glimpse of the Central Florida version of Galaxy’s Edge, with previews running from Aug. 1-16. It opens to all guests on Aug. 29.

The announcement of passholder previews for Galaxy’s Edge — something not offered for Disney World’s major 2018 addition, Toy Story Land — was followed by substantial price hikes of up to 25 percent for Disney World annual passes.
