Carowinds will open a record-breaking “super flume ride” in 2027.

The new ride, which was first teased in late 2024 for a 2026 opening, will be called Rip Roarin’ Falls and will sport a 100-foot drop, the  tallest drop on any log flume ride in the world, according to Carowinds.

The other world records that Carowinds is purported to break are the tallest reverse drop at 42 feet and the tallest “reverse camelback” element of a log flume at 32 feet.

“This level of investment and innovation is a true testament of our team’s commitment to bringing legendary attractions and world-class experiences to the Carolinas,” Carowinds President Bridgette Bywater said in a press release. “As a new signature ride, it combines record-setting thrills and cutting-edge ride innovation—all with a 35-inch height requirement that makes it accessible for families. It’s the perfect addition, sure to create lasting memories for generations of guests.”

Besides those record-setting numbers, Rip Roarin’ Falls will be 2,240 feet long, reach a top speed of 50 miles per hour and last six-and-a-half minutes.

There’s a story attached to the ride as well, with Carowinds saying it will be themed around an abandoned, haunted lumber mill.

The Charlotte, North Carolina park straddling the state line with South Carolina has been without a log flume ride since the closure of Powder Keg Log Flume (also called the Wild Thornberry’s River Adventure) in 2009.

The new ride will be built on the site of Carowinds’ former raft ride, Rip Roarin’ Rapids, which operated from 1982 to 2019.
